Born in Hong Kong, May Kay Yau entered the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts at the age of 17. Following that she was awarded a scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 2011, she completed her Ph.D. studies at the University of Bristol, funded by the Overseas Research Scholarship and the University Research Studentship. May Kay’s compositions have been performed in various music festivals in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Israel, Portugal, Greece, and U.K. She has collaborated with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, the BBC Singers, National Theatre, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Wuji Ensemble, and Concerto da Camera, amongst many others. 

 

Her orchestral piece “Alive” was awarded a Special Prize by Fondation Francis et Mica Salabert at the George Enescu International Competition in 2009 in Romania and her string trio “Vernarrtheit” won the University of Aberdeen Music Prize in 2009.

Dr. Yau May Kay 邱美琪博士  

生於香港,邱美琪於十七歲時入讀香港演藝學院學習作曲,副修鋼琴,其後獲多項獎學金赴英國皇家音樂學院和布里斯托大學完成碩士及博士課程。邱氏的作品曾於歐亞、北美、中東多個音樂節演出,也和多個樂團合作,包括英國廣播電台蘇格蘭交響樂、倫敦小交響樂團、皇家國家劇院、以色列耶路撒冷交響樂團,以及香港本地的無極樂團、雅樂合奏團等等。

 

邱氏的管絃樂作品《活著》於羅馬尼亞喬治·埃內斯庫國際音樂比賽獲法國Fondation Francis et Mica Salabert頒發特別獎,其絃樂三重奏獲得蘇格蘭阿伯丁音樂大賽冠軍。
