Mavis Lam 林灒桐

Pipa 琵琶

 

Mavis Lam helped found Wuji Ensemble in 2003 and currently serves as its concert leader.  She graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Chinese music.  

A seasoned pipa and ruan soloist, Lam has collaborated with choreographers, theatre directors and various arts groups, offering both live performances and improvised music.  Her recent performances include Finland’s Kumho Summer Festival (2016), Hong Kong Dance Company’s Reveries of the Red Chamber and Vipassana, Jiangsu Province Performing Arts Company Opera and Dance Theatre’s Xiangjun-Dream, Wuji Ensemble’s Boundless Groove＆A Sonic Journey in Nature, and the multimedia music theatre work To Someone Alike.  

In addition to performing, Lam is a dedicated music educator and a frequent pipa recording artist for television.  More recently, she has been actively engaged in music meditation, seeking to help audiences find inner peace through  heartfelt musical expression.
