
Simon Williams 衛西門

Simon Williams is a versatile timpanist and percussionist from London, whose career spans major symphony, chamber, opera, and ballet orchestras, as well as for film and television. He performs in a wide range of styles, including Brazilian jazz, samba, samba de coco, bossa nova, Latin jazz, Bollywood, and Canto-pop.
On period instruments, his work has included collaborations with the English Baroque Orchestra, Kent Opera, and London Brass.
A long-term resident of Hong Kong, Williams was formerly Principal Timpanist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and in recent years has also worked with ensembles such as the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Macau Orchestra, Jazz Friends Orchestra, FTLO Big Band, Sambrasia, Salvaje, and Banda Orbita.
He is Director of Music and Mestre of the Bateria at Nine Dragons School of Samba, where he teaches and performs Rio-style carnival samba in Hong Kong.
Williams received his early musical training at the Purcell School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department, before pursuing undergraduate studies at the Royal College of Music.
